WHO WE ARE

Developer, center manager, and retail real estate partner

Our Business: We specialize in everything surrounding prime retail properties at the international level, whether it's developing, further developing, building, leasing, managing, or marketing them to investors. SES also offers the know-how in these core competencies as a service within the SPAR Austria Group and to external third parties like Signa, Deka, Unicredit, and Allianz.

We live the Spirit of Retailing and this makes us different: We bring a special sense for retail, and for the people who shop and work in SES shopping malls, into the design and orientation of a shopping center. Our roots are in retail—and that shapes us. We are a subsidiary of SPAR Austria Group, a private, family-owned, 100% Austrian company with more than 75,000 employees in Austria and six other countries. SPAR Austria Group has enjoyed decades of success within three corporate “pillars”: the food trade (Spar, Interspar), sporting goods (Hervis), and shopping centers (SES Spar European Shopping Centers).

Management

It’s about the people

People are at the center of our daily activities: We develop and operate our shopping centers for them—the visitors, consumers, and our shop partners. We act sensibly and create places where people feel good.

SES currently has a team of about 400 employees managing some 30 shopping sites and working in SES’s headquarters and offices in Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Italy, and the Czech Republic. More than 80 specialists from the fields of development, architecture, construction management, asset management, leasing, and center and facility management work on the company’s joint success in SES’s headquarters in Salzburg.

1950er

  • SPAR was founded in Tyrol, Austria, in 1954 with 100 independent retailers and has been present throughout the country since the late ‘50s.

1960er
1970er

  • 10 wholesalers in Austria come together to form SPAR Österreichische Warenhandels-AG.
  • The first hypermarkets arise in Innsbruck, Neu-Rum, Dornbirn, and Graz (1971).
  • The first INTERSPAR hypermarket with leased front-end space opens in Linz (1974). This format is the forerunner to the shopping centers.

1980er

  • The systematic expansion of hypermarkets, turning them into small malls, heralds the start of SPAR Group’s shopping center developments.
  • Messepark Dornbirn opens, today an SES associate center (1986).

1990er

  • Start of activities outside Austria.
  • Purchase of Pampam and Konsum lay the groundwork for the Group’s further shopping center developments.

2000

  • Market entry into Slovenia (EUROPARK Maribor).
  • Expansion engine in Austria and its states runs at full speed. Several real estate objects gained through corporate acquisitions are developed into modern shopping centers: Q19 Vienna (2005), MURPARK Graz (2007), ATRIO Villach (2007), VARENA Vöcklabruck (2010).

2002

  • Market entry into the Czech Republic (EUROPARK Prague).
  • Acquisition of the Maximarkt hypermarket paves the way for the later acquisition of MAX.CENTER Wels (2006).

2007

  • The establishment of SES Spar European Shopping Centers as an independent strategic group entity combines 19 shopping centers in five countries under one leadership.
  • EUROPARK Salzburg granted the World’s Best Shopping Center award in two categories (ICSC Design & Development Award and Award for Sustainable Design, 2007).

2009

  • ATRIO Villach wins international award for sustainable shopping centers (ICSC Best-of-the-Best Award for Sustainable Design, 2009).

2013

  • Joint venture with ALLIANZ at seven SES locations in three countries.

2015

  • WERBERZEILE Ried opens and SES’s first managed shopping street begins operation. SES’s management portfolio grows to 30 locations (2015).
  • The extended FISCHAPARK Wiener Neustadt celebrates its grand opening (2015).

2016

  • HUMA ELEVEN opens with a completely new, timeless modern style at a traditional location in Vienna (2016).

2017

  • SES Spar European Shopping Centers celebrates its 10th anniversary (2017).
  • Extension HUMA ELEVEN: perfect shopping experience on a total of 50,000 m² GLA and 90 shops.

EUROPARK: Best shopping centers of Europe awarded in Warsaw - EUROPARK again awarded with prestigious ICSC Award

The awards bestowed by the ICSC, the International Council of Shopping Centers, are the most prestigious in the industry. Before the ICSC Award ceremony, an international jury of experts screened the nominees intensively. EUROPARK Salzburg was the only center to be awarded a prize in the “Established Shopping Center” category, bringing yet another prize home to Salzburg: the “ICSC European Shopping Center Award 2017” after 10 years of operation. SES CEO Marcus Wild, EUROPARK managing director Christoph Andexlinger and center manager Manuel Mayer received the award at the ICSC Conference in Warsaw (Poland).

WEBERZEILE: Best shopping centers of Europe awarded in Warsaw - WEBERZEILE and the city Ried win “ICSC Regeneration Award 2017”

The awards bestowed by the ICSC, the International Council of Shopping Centers, are the most prestigious in the industry. WEBERZEILE Ried, newly opened in 2015, won the “Regeneration Award” together with the city of Ried im Innkreis. The ICSC established that award to recognize centers that have opened in the last two years and are pioneers in city center beautification. SES CEO Marcus Wild received the award at the ICSC Conference in Warsaw (Poland). The ICSC experts back up their choice of WEBERZEILE and the City of Ried for the “Regeneration Award 2017” by noting the very good cooperation between the center developer and the municipality from day one.

MURPARK: ICSC European Shopping Center Award 2013

Q19: Merit, Phoenix (2008)

Q19 achieved a Merit in 2008 for top three finish in the category „Shopping Center under 15,000 m²” and is thus one of the most innovative shopping centers in the world.

MURPARK: MAPIC Retail Future Project Award 2005

The MAPIC Awards, established in 1996, reward excellence, innovation, and creativity in the retail real estate industry.

FISCHAPARK: Austrian Event Award 2016 in Bronze

The Austrian Event Award honors Austria's best events every year. SES Spar European Shopping Centers won bronze for the glamorous Golden Opening of the FISCHAPARK Wiener Neustadt in the "Corporate Public Events" category. In October 2015, the second component of FISCHAPARK was officially opened.

Q19: Q19 Ökoprofit 2017 and 2018

The shopping center Q19 is the first and to date only Viennese shopping center that passed ÖkoProfit. ÖkoProfit aims to reduce overheads by reduction of resources and materials, as well as waste avoidance.

EUROPARK’s architectural design and overall concept and its sustainable development were both judged to be outstanding and trend-setting.
